Alex had let slip briefly, once, that he was afraid of water, and Memo had immediately taken stock of his available tools should they ever have to undergo an aqueous mission. The headcount had come up wanting, what with Hydra being murderous on a good day, and most of his other Water-types being babies, lazy, or murderous lazy babies.

Great start.

This was how he found himself off Route 103, chilling on the coast with a fishing line, resting against the chill-radiating form of his Sealeo as Rollo snoozed behind him.

Something tugged on Memo’s line and he jerked back, spinning the reel furiously. Out from beneath the water popped a Dewpider-- up, up, up it went with the force of his pull, and down, down, down it came, hitting on the bank with a wet plop.

The stunned dual-type wasn’t exactly what Memo pictured as insurance against drowning, but he supposed it could be useful in a pinch. Hopefully, Alex wasn’t afraid of spiders like he was of ghosts, and water, and blood, and--

--look, he wasn’t complaining. He just liked to be prepared. Sometimes.

Rollo smacked the Dewpider with a water gun and Memo hit it with a Pokeball soon after.
